I believe in
I believe in libraries and secondhand book stores. I believe that traveling with someone can make or break a relationship. I believe in compromise.
I believe that every person should have a passport, and that they should use it. I believe in taking risks. I believe in waking up with natural light, not an alarm clock.
I believe in the value of cheap flights. I believe in splurging on a glossy magazine for any and every plane, train or bus ride. I believe that fresh orange juice cures all ills. I believe in wishing on shooting stars and passing hay trucks and when the clock strikes 11:11.
I believe in picking up one piece of trash every day. I believe in looking up words I don’t know in the dictionary. I believe that whoever cooks shouldn’t do the dishes.
I believe in stainless steel water bottles and reusable bags. I believe in hand-written thank you notes and postcards, and pretty postage stamps. I believe in flossing and wearing sunscreen every day.
I believe in friendships that will never fade, that will always end in laughter and inside jokes even when you haven’t seen each other in months. I believe that “in spite of everything, people really are good at heart.” If Anne Frank can believe that, I can believe that.
I believe that it’s important to make my bed every day. I believe in saying “bless you” when someone sneezes, especially if it’s a stranger. I believe in goals and plans and bucket lists. I believe in punctuality.
I believe in saying “please” and “thank you” in the language of whatever country I’m in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if it’s not the reason you want.
I believe in chivalry and politeness. I believe in never going to bed angry, and never waking up in a bad mood. I believe that every day is the first day of the rest of your life, and it’s never too late to change.
I believe in lying down in the grass and watching the clouds. I believe in the restorative power of sunshine. I believe in using real butter.
I believe in good grammar and proper spelling. I believe that sunrise yoga is the best way to start the day. I believe that a hard, sweaty workout is the best way to get over a bad day.
I believe in the power of a smile. I believe in surrounding yourself with positive people. I believe in doing the best you can, and then to hell with it.
What do you believe in?
