Postcard from the Bowery

Postcard from the Bowery

One of my favorite little moments in New York City always comes when I walk home from SoHo at night: I glance over my shoulder as I go down the Bowery between Houston and Delancey streets and I see the Empire State Building glittering uptown and I just can’t believe this is my walk home. The Bowery has long been one of my favorite streets in New York City: it’s the brash border between sophisticated SoHo and chaotic Chinatown, NoHo and NoLita.

The street itself is lined with restaurant supply stores with signs in Chinese letters, new bars with signature cocktails, the classic brick buildings with New York balconies (otherwise known as fire escapes). It’s also one of my favorite neighborhoods for street art: the murals are constantly changing and there are always interesting details by both established and emerging New York artists.
