Postcard from downtown Portland
For most of my stay in Portland, I never had to leave downtown: the World Domination Summit was held at the beautiful Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, I crashed with a few other girls at super-chic the Nines Hotel and I subsided on fresh finds from the Farmers Market and the diverse food cart options.
Portland’s city center is clean and compact, making it extraordinarily walkable (and perfect for bicycles). While there is a tram that snakes through the grid, don’t be fooled by comparing the number of stops to the number of blocks: walking is often much more direct and much quicker. When I wasn’t at the conference, I was usually soaking up the sunshine and people-watching in Pioneer Square or wandering the tree-lined streets in search of a good cup of coffee. Portland in July: you just can’t get much better than that!
