Postcard from El Yunque Rainforest
After a week of nothing but beaches and sunshine (poor us!), El Yunque was a nice burst of greenery on our last day in Puerto Rico. The only tropical rainforest in the United States–isn’t it funny how that works?–El Yunque National Forest is only a few minutes away from the beautiful beaches of Luquillo. A few left turns and you’re suddenly transported from sunshine and palm trees to waterfalls and giant ferns. It’s magical.
Unsurprisingly, it rained the entire time we were there. It was incredible how dramatically the climate changed as we climbed the hills into the rainforest and left the beach behind. The scenic viewpoint was mostly a lookout on one giant cloud, and our view from the car was obstructed by raindrops, but we were still in awe of the towering trees and just overwhelming GREEN-NESS of it all. Also–waterfalls! Who doesn’t love waterfalls?
