Postcard from Bidwell Park

Postcard from Bidwell Park

One of the best things about attending Chico State (other than all of those parties) was Bidwell Park: the third largest municipal park in the United States was just a short bike ride from campus. We spent lazy sunny afternoons splashing around in One Mile Swimming Hole and reading magazines where the sunshine broke through the towering trees, or gossiping as we cruised around the three-mile-loop bike trail.

Even though Chico State is a gorgeous campus on its own, Bidwell Park’s almost 4,000 acres are a solid asset when you’re a college student with a bike and plenty of free time. One of my biggest regrets is not exploring Upper Bidwell more: there are myriad swimming holes, hiking trails and gorgeous vantage points, yet I stuck close to what was familiar. On my last trip back to Chico, my boyfriend and I climbed Monkey Face: it only took about 20 minutes, but it was such a fantastic sprawling view over the surrounding area. If only there had been Instagram when I was in college: I may have spent every evening up there in search of the perfect sunset shot!
