One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

Williamsburg, Brooklyn in a blizzard

Heads up: I’m writing this in advance because I’m currently in sunny Southern California! We flew out Wednesday night and although I’m working remotely, I’m trying to spend any spare time outside in the sunshine instead of on my laptop. So! Here are some updates from the beginning of this week in snowy New York City, and stay tuned next week (and on Instagram this weekend!) for my favorite shots of Los Angeles. This is my first “grown-up” trip to LA–aka not playing in college lacrosse games or crashing with college friends’ families on summer break–and I’m so excited to catch up with friends and get a solid dose of Vitamin D.

Christine Amorose in Everlane pants

Looks

Last Saturday, I went to a super fun Everlane styling event in Brooklyn to celebrate the arrival of their new line of women’s pants. I’m honestly not a “pants” person: I wear skinny jeans or leggings all winter, and then switch to skirts and dresses for spring and summer. My office dress code is pretty laid-back, so it’s rare that I wear anything that requires ironing. However! I’m so glad I went to this event (besides the rhubarb prosecco cocktails and amazing studio light) because I LOVED these pants in person. They’re perfectly stretchy and flattering, and they look killer (but not too fancy) with flat sandals or heels. And the navy is just the right pop of blue while still acting as a solid neutral. As soon as snowboots aren’t part of my everyday outfit, these pants will be regularly working into the rotation.

Times Square at dusk in New York CityGrand Central Terminal in New York City

New York City

I was in Midtown Manhattan far more often that usual last week, and it was fun to be back wandering around my old haunts. I used to work on 39th and Madison when I first moved to New York in 2012: commuted through Grand Central, ate lunch on the steps of the New York Public Library, was enamored with the crowd at Times Square (for a hot second). Last week, I ended up grabbing coffee with a reader in Grand Central Terminal and did a little bit of work at the New York Public Library and walked through Times Square on my way to dinner on the Upper West Side. There’s just something about that neighborhood that feels so quintessentially New York to me–even if I am exceptionally grateful that I no longer have to be there every day!

Streets

We got a surprise snowstorm on Sunday: it was magical when we walked out of brunch into all the beautiful white flakes, and annoying when I was trudging home after a movie in the freezing rain and ugly gray slush. Alas: that’s pretty much how every snowstorm in March feels. Fingers crossed spring comes soon, even though I’ll try to appreciate every snowstorm that comes this month since it could (hopefully) be the last!

Comanche Moon by Larry Mcmurtry

Reads

It’s no secret that Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite books: it might seem long and overwhelming and outdated, but I swear, no Western book was ever better. I finally started Comanche Moon, the sequel (prequel?) that was written after but takes place before–and I love it! It’s so great to be back with the same group of characters that I fell in love with last year.

Paper wheel You Auto-complete Me card

Writes

My boyfriend and I have been dating for two years, so I picked up this super cute (and very 2015-appropriate) card to celebrate: you auto-complete me! My other favorite card from this Etsy store: you’re more awesome than inbox zero. How great are nerdy jokes on letterpress!

This weekend, we’re catching up with friends and enjoying all of the sunshine in West Hollywood. Stay tuned for photos of palm trees, bare toes and blue skies!
