One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

Colorful spring tulips at a bodega in New York City

So the biggest news of this week: I took a Transcendental Meditation course! It’s essentially a mantra meditation technique that is fairly well-known because so many celebrities practice it (like Howard Stern, Jerry Seinfeld and Lena Dunham)–and because there’s a bunch of scientific evidence to back up the health benefits. There are some cult-ish parts (but nothing that would seem too out of place in the yoga world) and it’s an expensive commitment, but I’m really hoping that incorporating the two 20-minute-a-day meditations will help me with stress/anxiety and how it manifests in my body and affects my relationships. So far, so good!

Colorful walls at Laughing Lotus Yoga Studio in Brooklyn  Namaste Hey

Even though I’ve been taking about a million barre and Pilates and spin classes with ClassPass, I still love being able to try out new yoga studios. I wrapped up a laid-back Sunday with a restorative yoga class at Laughing Lotus, and it was oh-so-relaxing. Even though I don’t think that restorative is really the jam at Laughing Lotus–they’re known for upbeat and music-based classes like Glitter & Gospel flow–it was great to find such a colorful yoga space in Brooklyn!

Looks

It is finally spring coat weather! My mom treated me to this gorgeous coat in Paris, and I’ve been (im)patiently waiting through all of those parka-required snowstorms to be able to wear it. Black and white is 100% my favorite color/pattern combination in the world, and I love how this jacket basically goes with black and anything. Also: I bought a new plant (and a pot in my favorite color!) for some springtime vibes at my desk.

Blooms

Because a) the colorful displays of tulips at corner bodegas are one of my favorite parts of walking through New York City in any season and b) the (several) $1.99 bunches of daffodils at Trader Joe’s are the best thing on my grocery list and c) the succulents-at-coffee-shops trend is hipsters doing things right.

Books and coffee at Happy Bones in New York City

Reads

I have a standing weekly latte date with my friend Jillian, and it’s become an unofficial book swap! She brought me Scary Close yesterday, and while I’ve just barely opened it, I’m looking forward to diving in this weekend. Don Miller was one of my favorite speakers at World Domination Summit in 2013, and I loved reading Blue Like Jazz after hearing him speak. Also: Happy Bones replaced the leopard print spoons with blue polka dot spoons. Swoon!

New York City

I always love when I spot things from my Secret New York book. We were walking down Fifth Avenue and I suddenly spotted the Fred French building! I immediately popped into the Art Deco entry–unassumingly sandwiched between the Tommy Bahama store and a kitschy tiki bar–and was blown away by how gorgeous it was. Midtown is full of surprises!

Words

This is my last low-key weekend in New York City for a while, so all I really want to do is sleep in, clean my apartment and drink a coffee while reading the New York Times. But, because I’m incapable of having an unscheduled weekend: I’m also planning on a Pilates class, dinner with my boyfriend’s parents here and our traditional Bloody-Marys-on-Easter brunch. Happy Easter weekend!
