Of the moment // 7.10.15
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!
The highlights of this week: my first piece over at Afar.com on what I loved most about Curacao, taking over the Afar Instagram feed with my favorite Curacao photos for a few days, contributing a post on my travel birthday tradition on Passion Passport and partnering up with American Express on an Instagram post. It’s still so fun (and validating) when other travel publications feature my work, and I just love that more people are discovering how beautiful and colorful Curacao is! Second half of 2015 goal: be more focused and consistent in pitching, networking and finding more places to have my words and photos featured.
Looks
I discovered this colorful wall when I discovered the delicious Morgenstern’s Ice Cream and honestly–I can’t get enough of either! I opted for angel food and mango-passion on a hot sticky day, but I’m already dying to go back and try the salted pretzel caramel and the apricot sorbet.
Knickknacks
In my quest to get back in shape: I bought a FitBit! I can already sense that it won’t amuse me forever, BUT it’s been neat to see just how much I walk in this city–and how little I move when I get caught up at work. I’m also really intrigued by the sleep tracker (and weirdly proud of my 99% sleep efficiency). Even if I don’t stick to it forever, it has inspired me to go on longer walks at lunch or start my morning by walking to Mr. Pina (a whole half mile, I now know!) for a fresh-squeezed juice.
Reads
I’m doing the free Kindle Unlimited trial this month, and one of the books that I was so happy to see featured was Life of Pi! I’d heard good things about the book and the movie, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the story so far. Since it’s set in India and Canada, it’s a nice travel-inspired read as well.
Eats
I almost always have ramekins of chia seed pudding in the refrigerator: it’s super quick easy to make, and I feel like it can stand in as a light breakfast, quick afternoon snack or healthy dessert. My go-to recipe: 1/4 cup of chia seeds, 1 cup of coconut milk (I usually do unsweetened because it’s healthier, but sometimes it’s fun to splurge with the canned sweet stuff!), 1/4 cup (ish) of honey and 1/4 cup (ish) of pureed fruit. Mix it all together, pour into ramekins (aka my favorite versatile dish in my kitchen), store in the refrigerator and you’re good to go. So delicious!
Words
“Happiness is when you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” -Mahatma Gandhi
This weekend, I’m in BERMUDA! With my boyfriend! Aka THE HAPPIEST! It’s only a two-hour flight from New York City, so we’re taking advantage of Summer Fridays and popping over for a few days of sunshine, SUP yoga and all the pink sand beaches we can find.
