Of the moment // 11.20.15
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!
After two weeks away, it was so wonderful to be back in my own bed and my apartment and my neighborhood! Traveling is such a huge and important part of my life, but I count myself very lucky that I absolutely love coming home to my regular life and routines. I forgot to cancel Blue Apron, but it was serendipitous: we had three wonderful meals that just arrived on our doorstep and I didn’t even have to worry about grocery shopping! We also tried out the gym in our neighborhood, and discovered the coziest speakeasy bar just around the corner from us. Although I was a little jet-lagged in the best way–falling asleep no later than 10pm and waking up easily around 6am–this week was mostly just a lovely welcome back to life in NYC.
Reads
After reading the somewhat heavy Long Walk to Freedom, I was looking for a nice and easy beach read. I feel like Amazon totally knows my reading habits at this point–aka WWII historical fiction with a nice dose of romance–and their suggestion of The Color of Secrets didn’t disappoint.
Blooms
The protea is the national flower of South Africa, and I absolutely fell in love with them while we were traveling through the country. They’re just so exotic, and seemingly hardy while also delicate. I just love that pale pink color! I also didn’t realize that countries necessarily had national flowers, but I wasn’t too surprised to learn that America’s national flower is the rose.
Drinks
I contributed a piece to YTravel Blog on my favorite coffee shops in New York City: if you’re visiting the city, skip the long lines at Starbucks and check out some of the coolest local spots.
Words
“What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while.” -Gretchen Rubin
This weekend, I’m in Sacramento for some pre-Thanksgiving family time. I’m excited to make homemade raviolis with my parents, get plenty of Annie snuggles and eat tacos/drink IPAs at Golden Bear with my friends.
