One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! #emptyfrick Frick Collection And so the holiday madness crunch begins! Between coffee dates, holiday parties, happy hours, Christmas shopping, seeing all the holiday cheer, and trying to squeeze in all of my medical appointments before the end of the year: HOLY SCHEDULING CHAOS. I’m loving seeing all my friends and having an excuse to get dressed up, but I’m already ready for a January in which I join a gym, cook all my meals and generally do a whole lot of nothing. That is probably unrealistic as I keep pushing extra December commitments to January, but hey, a girl can dream!

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Reads

Ok, so I read Big Magic in approximately 24 hours by the pool in San Juan and IT IS EVERYTHING. If you are a creative or you want to be a creative, if making things is your job or if you want to make things as your job, if you are feeling uninspired or listless or beat down by the man: READ THIS BOOK. Elizabeth Gilbert is your muse. There will probably be a whole post about it at some point, but until then, I leave you with this: “Be brave. Without bravery, you will never know the world as richly as it longs to be known. Without bravery, your life will remain small–far smaller than you probably wanted it to be.”

INDAY restaurant in New York City

Eats

I caught up with my old roommate for lunch in the Flatiron district, where we found this fantastic little Indian-inspired cafe. INDAY is kind of like an Indian Chipotle, where you can choose from a base grain, seasonal vegetable sides and your choice of protein–all with traditional Indian spices and chutneys. It was delicious, and the cafe itself is super cute: great option for lunch close to Madison Square Park!

Christine Amorose in SoHo, New York City

Looks

As part of my quest to a) keep the Caribbean color scheme going and b) take photos in front of all my favorite walls and c) to discover the newest street art in the city. The Rag & Bone store in SoHo regularly updates this wall with awesome art, but this one might be my favorite so far!

#emptyfrick Frick Collection

New York City

I started off Monday morning with a lovely experience: getting one of the most beautiful museums in New York City all to myself! Well, not quite–but close enough! I was invited to the #emptyfrick event at the Frick Collection with a few other select photographers: we had a private tour and were able to explore the Rockefeller-era mansion on the Upper East Side before opening hours. Such a dream space!

Rizzoli Bookstore in New York City

Words

“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” -Mark Twain

This weekend is a busy one in the city! I’m especially looking forward to getting my hair cut (who else loves not having to worry about styling their own hair for a couple of days?), drinking mulled wine and going to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center with a bunch of friends, and FINALLY having high tea at Bergdorf-Goodman.
