Of the moment // 12.18.15
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! LAST FULL WORK WEEK OF 2015–and it was a doozy! I had my department holiday party on Monday, my company holiday party on Thursday and a wide array of crazy last-minute deals to close in between. That said, I finally squeezed in a yoga class on Wednesday night after really falling out of a workout groove: it reminded me just how good it feels to stretch and move and breathe. I’m not usually a person who makes a New Year’s Resolution to work out more–but I’m already committing to getting back into a healthy routine in 2016.
Reads
The Cold War era might be my new favorite genre of historical fiction. The Hours Count is a fictional account that centers around Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the first American civilians ever convicted (and sentenced to death) for conspiracy to commit espionage. I couldn’t put it down! Such a crazy time in our nation’s history–and if that sounds interesting, it’s worth watching Bridge of Spies too!
Eats
To celebrate a year of coffee dates, Jillian and I treated ourselves to high tea at Bergdorf Goodman. IT WAS SO FABULOUS. We splurged on Veuve Cliquot (because obviously) and enjoyed the views over Central Park and enjoyed all the fancy tea sandwiches, scones and macarons. And, of course, half the fun was walking around Bergdorf’s and checking out all the gorgeous evening gowns on the way to the top floor restaurant. It was the most glamorous lady date, and I already want to go back.
Streets
Spotted this mural riding my bike from my place in Bed-Stuy to my hair salon in Bushwick over the weekend: super into it.
Drinks
You know how they say moms are always right? MOMS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT. My mom emailed me ages ago and told me to check out Trailer Park Lounge, but I thought it sounded weird and I never got around to it. And then our department holiday party was scheduled there: it is the kitschiest, most wonderful place on 23rd Street! Tropical drinks served in pineapples and really good frozen margaritas (with a Corona poured into them, of course)–and food like nachos, tater tots, sliders! We had such a fun time here, and I already want to go back with friends.
Words
“A real building is one on which the eye can light and stay lit.” – Ezra Pound
This weekend, we’re taking it easy in the city and catching up with lots of friends. I’m looking forward to drinks with my Yoga Teacher Training friends, dinner with my friend Maeve and her hilarious orange poodle and catching up over coffee with my friend Liz (aka Young Adventuress). Also: cleaning my apartment and last-minute Christmas shopping!
