Postcard from the Frick Collection
A few weeks ago, I woke up bright and early on a Monday morning and made way to the Upper East Side for the chance to have one of the world’s most epic art collections all to myself. #emptyfrick was part of the Frick Collection‘s 80th birthday celebrations: a chance for a small group of writers and photographers to gather in and be inspired by the storied space. 
The Frick Collection is one of my favorite hidden gem museums in New York City (shout-out to Liz for knowing how much I’d love it and telling me about it!): it’s not nearly as well-known as The Met or the MoMA, but it’s incredibly beloved by a subset of art and architecture enthusiasts. The building and gardens are easily one of the most beautiful spaces in New York City, and it houses a museum-quality art gallery: an incredible Vermeer painting and a whole room of Fragonard (that was “borrowed” by the Met at one time), among many other classics. It’s very old money New York–Frick the man was friends with other man like Carnagie, Rockefeller and Morgan–but it’s fun to imagine what life on the Upper East Side must have been like in those early days of glamour and wealth.
Pro tip: the museum is pay-what-you-wish between 11am and 1pm on Sundays! Although it likely won’t be empty, it’s a nice incentive to get to the museum earlier in the day.
