Of the moment // 1.8.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!
What a welcome back to New York City! We got our first real spurt of polar vortex-esque weather: think a high of 12 degrees with a negative windchill but still no snow. Between the cold temperatures and a crazy week at work, I am just feeling SO glad for the week of sunshine and surf in Costa Rica. I love how much a true vacation can reinvigorate you for real life! Looking forward to all that’s still to come in 2016.

As a kid, my favorite activities were drawing house floor plans with crayons and going to model homes: it’s a mystery how I didn’t end up as an architect or in real estate. That said, I’ve long been obsessed with the New York Times Real Estate section. So it was a dream come true to be featured in The Hunt column about our recent move to Bed-Stuy. Such a trip to see our names and faces in the actual print issue!
Knick-Knacks
My friend Jillian got me this sweet calendar from Artifact Uprising for Christmas, and I just about died laughing as soon as I opened it up. Although I 100% would have been OK with an all-pug calendar, it’s actually filled with photos from our adventures this year: all sorts of flowers, Bucks County covered bridges, fall foliage. Such a thoughtful gift that is going to bring me so much joy at my desk all year!
Eats
Goal for 2016 and always: try new restaurants and explore new neighborhoods! We started out strong with a delicious dinner at BKB Restaurant on the Upper East Side: I loved the El Catrin cocktail (basically tequila with hints of cinnamon), the tuna tartare with avocado, and the fancy lobster roll on the softest brioche roll. It tasted like a bit of summer in the city–no surprise, since their main location is located in East Hampton. YUM. Worth checking out if you’re in the mood for seafood!
Fixed Life Envy: Details
Our apartment is slowly but surely coming together, and one of my favorite pieces is the Lulu & Georgia Satya Rug in the entry way. Rugs are one of those things that I equate with grown-up style: they’re not exactly necessary, but they can really upgrade the look and feel of a space. We’re trying to make this one room act as an entryway AND office AND dining room AND my closet–so different rugs are really helping us define those spaces. More photos coming soon!
Words
“Every new year I think about how it’s just another day, and without a calendar we wouldn’t feel the years but by the seasons. Maybe ancient people said ‘I am 33 winters old’ or maybe they didn’t count at all. We feel pressure to label a year and put made up milestones and give expectations a time and date and then feel accomplished or disappointed. Sometimes things just happen to us, all at once, like an avalanche.” –Jedidiah Jenkins
This weekend, we’re celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday: dinner with his family in the city one night, and then a party at our place in Brooklyn the next! Binge watching The Good Wife is also highly possible.
