Of the moment // 2.26.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! This was one of those weeks where I tried to schedule every ounce of my time: there was one day when I had a networking breakfast, lunch with an old colleague, a meeting with my tax advisor and then a girls dinner with my best friends. And honestly: it was too much. Between all of those extracurriculars and my actual work, I was completely drained–and I felt too overwhelmed to answer emails or clean my apartment or do all of the little things that keep me sane. My life feels completely booked for the next few weeks (with all fun things!), and I realized that I need to schedule in some down time for myself. I just can’t be a good friend or girlfriend or coworker if I’m ragged around the edges. Lesson I’m continuing to learn!
Drinks
My weekly-coffee-date friend is moving back to Maryland: sad for me, but exciting for her! It was a good long run of book exchanges, photo shoots and coffee shop discoveries, and we ended it with a morning at the super cute Cafe Henrie. The lattes were on point, but I think we were more enamored with the pink and turquoise tables. I’m counting down the days until her next work trip to the city!
Looks
We’ve had a spurt of not-quite-parka weather, so I broke out my spring coat: when it’s layered over a cardigan and worn with a hat and scarf, it’s actually perfect for blustery 50-degree days. On that note, I chuckled to myself when I realized that 50 degrees now feels practically tropical. Growing up in California, 50 degrees sounded SO cold and would have called for the warmest jacket I owned. It’s so funny how perceptions change!
Blooms
It’s not quite spring yet, but tis the season for bodega blooms!
Reads
I was sort of hoping slash expecting Why We Came To The City would be a bit more of a New York love letter like Never Can Say Goodbye. However, the city is more of a supporting character than the hero–but with plenty of nuances and flaws and strengths. It’s intense, but a good read.
Words
“There are no happy endings.
Endings are the saddest part,
So just give me a happy middle
And a very happy start.”
-Shel Silverstein
This weekend, we’re going to Providence! We spent Valentine’s Day there last year, and we haven’t stopped raving about brunch at Kitchen since we left: we’re basically going back to celebrate our third anniversary with all of the muffins.
