Postcard from the Tulum Ruins
The ruins in Tulum are one of those “can’t-miss-while-in-Cancun” sort of things–aka the parking lot is full of tour buses and the entire place is packed with people. Even though it’s touristy and crowded, it’s 100% worth a visit. When we were in Mexico, we spent the morning at the ruins and the afternoon swimming in cenotes: it was the perfect day trip from Playa Del Carmen! Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Mayans, and was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries: the ruins are incredibly well-preserved and offer an interesting look into life in ancient Mayan civilization. But always, man-made beauty often pales next to natural wonders: the rugged cliffs and soft white sand beach is a stunning portion of the Caribbean coastline.
