Of the moment // 3.18.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Holy cow this week was exhausting! After four straight nights of activities (that all included lots of talking, drinks and late bedtimes), an intense week at work and three weekends out of town: I’m SO looking forward to a low-key weekend in Manhattan. But this week was full of fun stuff: hosting a group of Chico State students at Vimeo (where I gave them lots of good advice), two nights of networking events with Chico State alumni (see above–aren’t we fancy?!), an excursion to Commodore for nachos and spicy chicken sandwiches with my favorite coworkers, and even a double date in Park Slope! AND we also just opened a job opportunity on my team at Vimeo: if you (or someone you know) are interested in digital media, brand partnerships and working directly with me in NYC, apply here.
Looks
I got a sneak peek of Poppy Barley’s newest boot: the Two Point Five Ankle Boot in desert tan! I’m a big fan of Poppy Barley’s mission and products–I wore my Everyday City Boots basically every day for the last two winters, and they’re still in great shape. The new ankle boot is perfect for transition seasons: I feel like I can wear them with skinny jeans OR sundresses. And just like my other Poppy Barley boots: they’re super comfortable and can basically be worn all day, every day without worrying about blisters or discomfort. Love love!
Eats
Two Hands Cafe in Little Italy is one of my go-to places for lattes and avocado toast–and they just opened a new restaurant and bar location in TriBeCa. It’s bigger and brighter, and they actually managed to improve upon perfection: the avocado toast is absolutely ace. I can’t wait to go back and try out the lunch menu!
Reads
A coworker recommended Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, and I absolutely couldn’t put it down during my solo weekend in Quebec City: I read the whole thing in three days. It’s part real-life crime thriller, part Mormon history, part reflection on religion and faith. It was very interesting and provided a lot of food for thought: definitely worth reading if you’re interested in any of the above.
Words
“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” -ee cummings
This weekend, we’re doing a NYC staycation at The Chatwal since my boyfriend is running the New York City Half Marathon early on Sunday morning. I’m looking forward to early morning walks on quiet Manhattan streets–and indulge in some spa time with my girlfriends at Aire Ancient Baths on Saturday!
