One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!  charity: water VR filmOne of the coolest things I did this week was catch up with my friend Cubby: he’s a super talented photographer and storyteller, the genius behind all of the charity: water social feeds AND quite possibly the most upbeat and enthusiastic people in the world. One of my favorite projects from when I worked at ONA was collaborating with Cubby on the Sahel camera strap, where part of the proceeds from each sale go directly to supporting charity: water. Anyway, we caught up over coffee and then I got to experience my very first VR film! I was amazed by the technology, but also the story that the charity: water team was able to tell: it was super moving and inspiring, and it honestly felt like I was right there in Ethiopia. Really looking forward to seeing how this new technology evolves–and seeing how charity: water continues to change the world!

Wanderlust

Part of the reason for my visit to South Africa last year was this awesome #MeetSouthAfrica mini-series that the tourism department was putting together. Even though it covers a lot of the adventures that I’ve talked about here–bungee jumping, safari, exploring Cape Town–it also dives into a really cool experience I had meeting with South Africa’s first black female winemaker.Brooklyn Botanic Garden Brooklyn Botanic Garden Brooklyn Botanic Garden Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Blooms

I joined the Brooklyn Botanic Garden last weekend, and I am SO STOKED. I honestly think it’s the best $50 I’ve ever spent! Even though I’ve taken advantage of the free entries in the past (before noon on Saturday and all day on Tuesday), I’m excited to be able to go on any day. Plus, there are longer hours in the summer for members–and members-only picnics, concerts and even an outdoor movie night. I can’t wait to start going all the time–even to just relax with a book in the sunshine surrounded by blooms!

Reads

I’m a) looking for something fun to read since I’ve been working my way through all sorts of professional books and b) I’m working on a second series of the best beach reads. So! If you have any recommendations and/or types of books you’re looking for, I’d love to hear.

Eggs on toast and coffee with the New York Times

Eats

It’s been so refreshing to be home in Brooklyn for the last few weekends: I love to travel, but it’s also nice to have weekend routines to look forward to. One of my favorites are lazy morning breakfasts. My boyfriend is becoming a bit of a coffee nerd, so he’s perfected the art of the Aeropress. I love putting together some variety of eggs on sourdough toast: usually over easy with avocado and Vegemite. I asked for a New York Times weekend subscription for Christmas, so I love flipping through the Real Estate and Travel sections while sipping my coffee.Trees blooming in NYC spring

This weekend, I’m (finally!) checking out the Whitney and heading up to the New York Botanical Garden. Super excited for spring adventures with girlfriends in the city!
