One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

This week was one of those that I keep saying I’ll stop scheduling for myself: activities every night of the week! Even so, I actually feel more energized than exhausted: I think the trick was starting them all early so that I was home at a reasonable hour and had some time to decompress, take off my makeup and read my book before going to bed. It didn’t hurt that it was all fun stuff, and the sun was finally shining! Now the the sun has been rising earlier and setting later, I feel like I’ve been naturally waking up much earlier AND squeezing in more after-work activities: win-win-win.

Summer is coming: we went to our first Yankees game of the season last night! My boyfriend actually found $5.01 tickets as part of a Levis 501 promotion, and the seats weren’t half bad. We splurged on beer and Cracker Jacks (although if you watched Snapchat, you know I snuck in healthy snacks too!), and generally had a very lovely evening at the ballpark.Chips and guac at Tacombi Nolita

Eats

I have a couple of college girlfriends who live in city, and we try to get dinner together at least once a month: this week, we caught up over beers and guacamole and tacos at Tacombi Lolita. The interior is super cute, complete with a converted VW bus taco kitchen! Pro tip: happy hour goes from 4-7pm and features 2-for-1 drinks. (Special shot-out to reader Ellie who recognized me at dinner and said hi and totally made my night!) Bluebells blooming at Brooklyn Botanic Garden  Bluebells blooming at Brooklyn Botanic Garden Bluebells blooming in Chinatown

Blooms

Next up in wonderful seasonal stages of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden: the bluebells are blooming! I took a pre-work detour one morning to go frolic in all their glory. Highly recommend going out soon if you want to see them: the garden is free before noon tomorrow!  I don’t feel like we had many bluebells growing up in California, but I’ve started to notice them all around the city (and I kind of love how they remind me of the lavender fields of Provence).

My book club met on Monday to discuss The Nest, and it was the greatest! I tore through the book last weekend in Maine: it’s one of those where I really could have stayed up one night and finished it, but then I would have been sad because it was over. It was also a really great book for discussion: the characters

It’s been a hectic week, so I’m looking forward to a low-key weekend! We’re having carnitas tacos and beers at our friends’ new place in Carroll Gardens, hosting my boyfriend’s mom for a belated birthday brunch at our place  and taking a bike ride around Central Park.
