Of the moment // 5.27.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! For better or worse, my mood has always been very weather dependent: I’m happy when it’s sunny and warm, miserable when it’s cold and gray and rainy. This week has been especially erratic, veering from random downpours to straight-up 90-degree temperatures–but it now feels like summer is here to stay! That means sandal season and bike rides and rooftop bars and working in the courtyard and generally all of the most wonderful things. I can’t believe we’re already into June (where has this year gone?!), but I’m so happy it’s finally here.
New York City
Although this is the third time in three years (!) my boyfriend has run the Brooklyn Half Marathon, it was the first time that I was around for it. There’s usually a decent group of our friends who run it, and the route goes from Prospect Park straight down to Coney Island: so even though the weather wasn’t exactly beachy, I decided to bike down next to the course with my friend Kate and then join in for a few beers at the finish line. It was madness to try and find everyone at the end (so many cell phones, not enough service), but after a few hiccups and a minor meltdown, we all reunited and ate hot dogs and washed them down with Budweisers. The only downside was that I had to bike back on my own, and it felt so much longer without having any runners to cheer on!
Eats
New Sunday morning tradition: my boyfriend makes coffee (option of Aeropress or cold brew now!), I make blueberry panackes, we actually sit at our dining room table (instead of on the couch) and we read the New York Times like actual grown-ups while listening to reggae or classic rock. It’s a very leisurely and pleasant start to the day and week.
Reads
Judy Blume was such an icon of my childhood, so I couldn’t resist reading her latest: In the Unlikely Event. It’s set in the 1950’s and based on the real-life events of 1952, when three planes crashed in a small town next to Newark Airport. I didn’t love the ending, but in general, it’s a good read. (Fun fact that I’ve been laughing about all week: Judy Blume actually lived in my boyfriend’s apartment building when he was growing up! I would have been so starstruck!)
Drinks
I bought a bottle of glitter-y sparkling wine from One Hope back around the holidays: I thought it’d be a fun thing to have on hand the next time we had something to celebrate! When we came home from picking out our pug on Sunday, we decided that becoming pug parents was worth toasting. We popped open the bubbly out on our balcony and watched the sunset, and it was just lovely.
Words

This weekend, I’m exploring Scottsdale, Arizona! My itinerary is packed full of good stuff: I’m most excited for desert landscapes, spa treatments and a sunrise hot air balloon ride.
