Of the moment // 7.29.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Like I said yesterday, I’m not hugely political, but I’ve actually started becoming more informed in a weird way. Whenever we leave Gertie at home alone, I always leave NPR on for her–my mom is a big believer that talk radio is comforting for dogs–and I often forget to turn it off and just end up listening to it while I’m making dinner or straightening the apartment before my boyfriend gets home. It’s actually really interesting and informative, and nice to not “choose” what I’m going to hear like I would with Spotify or a podcast.
Looks
I have a great group of female work friends at Vimeo who are all fervent Hillary supporters. We decided to celebrate the day she accepted her nomination by all wearing our Hillary shirts! If you haven’t checked out the Hillary shop, I’ve got to say: she’s got a great team of designers working for her, and so many cool collaborations. I’m wearing the DVF collab, but I’ve got my eye on the Tory Burch one and the Eva Fehren one. One thing to note: if you’re thinking of buying one, order soon–shipping takes forever!
Streets
I bike through downtown Brooklyn every Saturday morning on my way to Trader Joe’s, and this mural project (officially called Love Letter to Brooklyn) always brightens my morning. Sad to see that it might be going away!
Drinks
Does anyone else drink amaretto sours? I feel like they seem kind of like an old or unpopular drink, but oh my gosh, they’re one of my favorites. I used to drink them with Mimi and I’ve recently rediscovered how good they are as a summer happy hour choice. They’re super easy to make: 3 parts amaretto, two parts lemon juice (fresh-squeezed is best, but I sometimes cheat with the bottled stuff) and a touch of simple syrup over ice. I’ve been drinking one on the rooftop after work on these sunny nights, and it’s been a lovely way to decompress after a long day!
Words
“There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.” -Susan B. Anthony
This weekend, we’re hanging out in Brooklyn and trying some new restaurants in our neighborhood. Gertie gets all of her shots tomorrow (!) so I was hoping for some park adventures, but the rainy weather might not cooperate. TBD!
