One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!New York City skyline from WilliamsburgIt’s good to be back in New York City: I’ve long said that having a home I’m excited to return to is just as fulfilling as exploring a new place, and that was extra true coming home to Gertie this year. I’m looking forward to staying pretty close to New York for the next month or so, and trying to squeeze in a few of my favorite NYC summer things (rooftop bars, outdoor movies, Rockaway beach days) before summer ends!

Eats

Although Jillian (of coffee date fame) moved to the Maryland suburbs several months ago, we still try to grab coffee whenever she’s in the city. She popped into New York City for one last work trip before she has her baby (so soon!), and we woke up early and headed to a West Village favorite for lattes and avocado toast.

Reads

Between two trans-Atlantic flights on Norwegian, a Eurostar train ride, the train ride between London and Cambridge and several Metro rides in Paris: I had plenty of time to read on this trip! I blew through The Girls and Liane Moriarty’s latest book Truly Madly Guiltily. The Girls was a little creepy, focusing on a cult in California in the 1960’s, but Truly Madly Guiltily is Moriarty at her finest: it keeps you guessing until the very end. It’s the perfect end-of-summer beach read!John Keats quote at Shakespeare & Co in Paris

Words

“I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days – three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.” -John Keats

This weekend, we’re going to Avalon: not staying as long in previous years sadly (back to work on Monday morning), but long enough for some sunshine, ice cream and beach time!
