Of the moment // 9.2.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!
I can’t believe it’s already September! Going back to school used to be my favorite time of year: new clothes, a new agenda, new beginnings. Even as a grown-up, I still use it as a time to buy a new agenda (I can’t wait for this one to come in the mail!) and start thinking about buying sweaters and boots and think about what I need to do to implement my New Year’s resolutions before the year ends. Also, September and October are legitimately my favorite months in New York City: it’s crisp but not too cool, and the leaves start changing but you can still eat outside, and there are fun weekend activities like apple picking and beer tasting. It’s the best!
New York City
I took Gertie to a play date in Midtown the other day (aka a rooftop BBQ with my friend’s pup) and instead of sitting in BQE traffic in an Uber or dealing with a two subway transfers, I decided to take the East River Ferry down to DUMBO. I forget how much fun the ferry is, especially at sunset! You get all the best views and all the relaxation for only $6. It was Gertie’s first ferry ride, and she was also a huge fan.
Reads
I just started reading The Couple Next Door last night, and I can already tell that I’m going to finish it this weekend! So far, it seems like an SVU episode in a book but even more intriguing with more layered characters.
Eats
The courtyard at the High Line Hotel is one of my favorite summer secrets in New York City: there’s a great Intelligentsia coffee cart and plenty of shady tables to set up and read or work. And although I’ve popped over for a beer after work before, I didn’t realize that Alta Linea had such good cocktails and food! On one of those days with perfect summer temperatures, a few of us decided to splurge on a fancy lunch out and it was SO fun.
Words
“They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.” -Tom Bodett
I’m looking forward to enjoying the long weekend in NYC! My plans include a New York Pilates Reformer class and trying out a Heyday facial tomorrow, eating tacos and getting some sunshine at Rockaway Beach and riding bikes around Governors Island. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates!
