Of the moment // 10.28.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! A lot happening behind the scenes right now, and that has reflected itself quite squarely in my lack of blog posts right here! That said, I promise that the rest of the year will be different: I have a few fun (and very spontaneous) travel plans coming up, and a few flights where I can hunker down and work. I swear–my best work always gets done in airports and on planes! That said, I apologize for the lack of posts and I’m going to do my best to make up for it the rest of the year. I’m going to do some deep digging on past posts to check for any suggestions I might have missed, but if you have something you’d like to read about: feel free to comment about it below to bring it to the top of the queue. November goals happening early!
Drinks
We recently discovered Kings County Distillery, and oh my gosh, I am just in awe of the interior! It’s Brooklyn’s oldest whiskey distillery and it’s housed in one of the gatehouses at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the inside is just so surprisingly beautiful! Bonus: very excellent whiskey and really delicious whiskey-based cocktails. Pug Life
It’s been a tough week with Le Gert! She was scheduled for a spay and a procedure to get her little nose holes widened, and the vet ended up cancelling it because she needs to have a more intense procedure (that’s not covered by insurance, and that’s very expensive!). Definitely something that we knew we were signing up for when we got a pug, but it’s still rough. I also cried when I dropped her off at the vet thinking that she was going to get anesthesia and have an actual surgery–I don’t know how I’m going to handle having actual human children!!! (Also: Gert urges you to vote. This is why I’m with her.)
Reads
I noticed The Short and Tragic Life of Rob Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League on the shelf of a bookstore a while ago, and I’m so glad that I finally picked it up. It’s a really incredible book that speaks to so many socioeconomic issues within our society, but it’s also just such a compelling narrative. I didn’t expect it to be a book that I didn’t want to put down, but I’ve been absolutely loving it.
Words
“My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest way.” -Ernest Hemingway
This weekend, I’m catching up with my two best girlfriends in Southern California! We’re drinking wine, eating tacos, watching sunset on the beach and generally just relaxing and laughing at Laguna Beach House. I’m so excited to finally be reunited–under the palm trees no less!
