Of the moment // 12.2.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! At the beginning of 2016, I intentionally decided not to make any resolutions: all I wanted was more of the good stuff and less of the bad. As we wrap up the year, I feel pretty good about that: this week, I meditated most mornings and went to a few Pilates classes and made my favorite dinner. I’ve traveled to some amazing places, and I still have a few more planes to board this year (!). Mostly, I can’t believe that it’s almost time for holiday parties and Christmas shopping and year-end wrap-ups. Where did this year go?!
Pug Life
It’s officially (pug) sweater weather! I went on a bit of a streak and bought Gertie sweaters in every color: I just can’t get over how cute she looks in them. We took her to Prospect Park on one unseasonably warm day last weekend, and Gert just had a ball playing in all the leaves and making some new friends in the open fields. I’m hoping the snow holds off so we can go a few more times!
Shows
My newest obsession (at least when David isn’t home): Call the Midwife. It’s a BBC show set in the 1950’s that follows a group of nuns and nurses delivering babies in the poor East End of London. I love it!
Eats
One of my go-to lunch places when I’m in the city for meetings is Inday. Takeout Indian food is one of my favorite guilty pleasures, but it can seem super heavy and rich and not that healthy. Inday does these really great bowls that are Indian-inspired and full of healthy ingredients. I made the Paradise Bowl with “not-rice” (made with shredded cauliflower), and it was the best carb alternative I’ve ever had. I also think I want to DIY my next bowl and just do double the sweet potatoes–they were SO good and perfectly spiced!
Reads
One of my friend works at Scholastic in the children’s department, and she always has a handle on the best YA fiction. She recently passed along Holding Up the Universe, and although it’s definitely more suited for teenagers: it’s been a nice light-hearted change of pace.
Words
“May your heart always be joyful. May your song always be sung.” -Bob Dylan
This weekend, we’re celebrating a friend’s birthday party and going to a housewarming potluck and trimming a Christmas tree! I’m looking forward to lots of friend time and lots of pug time.
