Of the moment // 12.9.16
One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! It’s finally starting to get quite chilly here! After an unseasonably warm November, winter is just around the corner. I have a really hard time with the winters here: it’s a bit of a running joke with my friends, but my sunshine-y mood often takes a dramatic turn for the worse once the skies darken. That said, I’m trying to remain as optimistic as possible and part of that is creating a list of things to look forward to (and also to keep busy with): hot chocolate (with a $1 marshmellow!) at City Bakery, sledding in Central Park, the holiday windows on Fifth Avenue, cozy museum dates, and hot toddies at as many bars-with-fireplaces as I can find. Does anyone have any other favorite winter activities in New York City?
Looks
I’ve been such a big fan of Cuyana products and mission: they’re all about fewer, better items, which is something I can get behind! I’ve worn this alpaca oversized sweater three times this week already because it’s incredibly comfortable but also looks so classy: it works for every occasion, from picking out a Christmas tree with my boyfriend’s family to a client meeting at work. I also indulged myself on these gorgeous little travel bags (that will also totally double as a clutch) with my future monogram (!) on it–they’re a really fun (and practical, and beautiful) gift if you have any newly engaged or recently married friends.
New York City
I went on a lady date to the opening night of the Brooklyn Nutcracker at the Brooklyn Museum earlier this week. I went to The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center my first winter in New York City, and it was such a wonderful holiday experience. The Brooklyn Nutcracker was more modern in such a cool way, especially with the diversity of bodies and styles of dance. One of my favorite acts was when half of the stage was in tutus and did ballet, while the other half of the stage did a traditional African dance–all to Balachine! It reminds me that experiences are always worth splurging on–I came home and immediately started looking up tickets to the New York City Ballet and performances at Julliard.
Reads
I’m currently reading Attachments, which is a funny take on an all-too-real fear: someone hired to read all of your emails and chats on your work email server (!).
Words
“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.” -Laura Ingalls Wilder
I’m staying at the gorgeous Le Barthelemy in St Bart’s this weekend, and I’m going to be taking over the Conde Nast Traveler Instagram Stories and Snapchat tomorrow if you want to follow along!
