One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

Anti stress coloring books

I spent last weekend on a silent yoga and meditation retreat in the Berkshires, and it was such a good way to reset. It was my fourth time in five years attending this retreat, and I loved being able to reread my journal entries through the years and see what’s shifted and what’s stayed the same. I spent most of the weekend reading by the fire and coloring a bunch of flower-y postcards, and even took a nap! I realized that I never take naps anymore because I constantly feel like there are a million things I should be doing–it felt SO good to truly have nothing pressing to do and feel like I could just lay down and go to sleep (also, we woke up at 6am for meditation so also possible that I was just very tired). I’ve also been doing more barre and Pilates classes lately, so it was nice to get back into a yoga routine! Overall, not only did it give me a really restorative break from the city, it also magnified some of the areas at home that I could bring a bit more intention to–so this week, I’ve been working on not texting while walking, not checking my email before bed, and taking some time to BE without any headphones in or devices on.

Shows

I feel like I might have mentioned this before, but is everyone watching This is Us? If not, you must. It can definitely be a tear-jerker, but it’s so moving and thoughtful and has such an interesting range of characters. I haven’t watched the finale yet, but I will have my tissues ready!

Eats

I know that I’m a million years late on the blogger train here, but I finally discovered the joy of overnight oats! If you’re not familiar: it’s a super easy and convenient way to wake up to a delicious, healthy and already-made breakfast. One of my favorite parts is that it doesn’t use any extra pots, pans or bowls–just one mason jar for prepping, storing and eating.

Reads

I’m currently reading Homegoing, and I can already tell that it’s one of those books that I’m going to purposely read slowly just because I’ll be bummed when it’s over. It’s historical fiction set in Africa during the height of the slave trade, and it’s a fascinating look at a culture and set of characters we don’t often consider in America.

Words

“When you meet people, show real appreciation, then genuine curiosity.” -Martha Beck

This weekend, we’re having a low-key weekend in the city! I’m looking forward to my monthly facial, a barre class and catching up on some writing while also drinking plenty of David’s signature weekend Aeropress. We’re also heading to a housewarming party in Brooklyn, and then taking Gert to meet her SIBLINGS in an internet-arranged pug family reunion.
