One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!
We recently switched over YouTube TV (and cancelled our Hulu account) and I’m actually really enjoying it! The big perk is having access to a lot more network TV and being able to watch things live (but also fast-forward through the commercials sometimes). In random things: we’ve especially gotten into Judge Judy and Jeopardy lately! I used to watch Jeopardy all of the time when I was growing up–it was a childhood dream to be on kids Jeopardy–and it’s been a really fun show to watch while having a glass of wine. Has anyone else noticed how funny Alex Trebek has gotten?! The only tough part is that I almost always am on my computer when watching TV and Jeopardy is NOT a show where you can multi-task. Any other fans out there?

I’ve been enjoying the latest episodes of Death, Sex & Money: it’s a series of conversations and stories about those taboo subjects. There’s an interesting interview with Lena Waithe, an unexpected result to a mail-in genealogy test, and a hard (and very sad) look at the tough emotional work that vets do.

Somehow, I missed a lot of the initial news around the horrific nanny killings on the Upper West Side: the case went to trial a couple of weeks ago, so it’s back in the headlines. I can’t tell how I feel about the book The Perfect Nanny: it’s not quite as suspenseful or thrilling because you know in the back of your head that it’s based on a true story (and no one really knows why or how it happened), and that’s almost more disturbing.

My in-laws are coming to visit us, and they rented a house a few blocks from the beach in Coronado! We’re really excited to show them around our life in San Diego AND get to pretend like we live on the beach for a few days.
