Of the moment // 6.29.18
One of those weeks where I wrote a to-do list every morning…and then wrote the same things on the to-do list the next day. Rough week for productivity: I flew out to New York City on Monday, had a Tuesday stacked with meetings, and flew back to San Diego on Wednesday. Although I got a fair amount done on the plane, there was still just a ton of time dealing with transit and jet lag (and also, not wanting to stop reading a page-turner).
That said: I have so many European posts brewing, and some exciting news to share, too! Promise I’ll get my act together in July and get back on track: just need to figure out how to carve a few more hours into every day. Until then: a quick update of a few favorite things from this week!
Sweets
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, we FINALLY checked out the new(ish) Salt & Straw location in San Diego. I got totally obsessed with Salt & Straw when I visited Portland, and I’m so stoked that they’re in my city now! We sampled a few of the monthly flavors (the Ras El Hanout and Pickled Rose Petal Jam was surprisingly delicious), and then opted for a four-flavor sampler: almond brittle with salted ganache, James coffee and bourbon, salted, malted, chocolate chip cookie dough, and roasted strawberry and toasted white chocolate. I think my favorite was the cookie dough: there were enormous chunks of cookie dough and chocolate, and it was so decadent.
Eats
Whenever I’m in New York City on the right day, I always try to go to Pizza Monday! My friends Kate and Austin have a long-standing tradition (it was started in Austin’s childhood) of an open invitation for friends to come over and make pizzas on Monday night. They supply the dough, sauce and cheese; you bring yourp preferred toppings and beverage. It’s a litttttle on the earlier side since they welcomed Jude earlier six months ago (!!!), but just as fun as ever–and the pizzas are getting fancier and fancier! This week, they did an everything bagel crust (which was to die for) AND a lavender-ricotta-honey pizza that could rival any Brooklyn pizzeria. Forever grateful to have friends who are SO awesome–and who also make incredible pizzas!
Drinks
My newest obsession slash life hack: canned wine from Union Wine Co. I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I have to admit: I got a little tipsy, which I wasn’t expecting. I was texting my friend and she so kindly informed me that every can is the equivalent of 2.5 glasses! That said, it’s super convenient and perfect for a beach sunset toast or a cheeky drink at the dog park. It’s also perfect to split for a weekday dinner: I made steak and sweet potatoes one night, and although I didn’t want to open a new bottle of wine before flying out the next day, one glass of red did sound like it would go so nicely with dinner: David and I shared a can of Union Wine Co’s Pinot Noir, and it was delightful.
Reads
The Favorite Sister was my book club’s pick for our summer book club at the beach (v So Cal) and although it took me a while to get into it, WHAT A GREAT BEACH READ. Twists! Drama! Basically a combination of all Bravo programming and Unreal with multiple perspectives. Solid pick if you need a vacation read–it took me a second to get into it, but then I didn’t want to put it down. I started Exit West on the plane back, and I’m absolutely loving it so far. Also: we’re about halfway through the year (and 28 books completed), and I’m loving Goodreads more than ever!
Words
“There is no envy, jealousy or hatred between the different colors of the rainbow. And no fear either. Each exists to make the others’ love more beautiful.” -Aberjhani
This weekend, we’re flying to Salt Lake City–and then driving up to Jackson Hole for a week with David’s family!
