The news of this week: #DogMomTheBook is (almost) out! The back story on this little project: about a year ago, I got an email from a fellow Chico State alumna who is now an author and editor in New York City. She and her team had been chatting about the possibility of doing a book for dog moms, and she immediately thought of me (and Gertie!).
Although I had never really considered writing a book like this, it was a really fun experience! I learned a lot more about the book planning, writing and publishing process, and mostly realized: I can do this! It’s just writing one word after another, over and over again. Moral(s) of the story: I’m a crazy dog mom, I’m really excited to finally see the book in the flesh, and I hope that it’s not the last book that I write!
Looks
My go-to summer evening outfit: an Everlane bodysuit (I have one in black and one in pale pink) and ripped Levi’s jeans. I’ve never been much of a bodysuit person before, but these are equally comfortable and sexy and versatile (and very easy to layer!).
Eats
Just confirming I’m still very committed to Blue Apron. We get it whenever we’re in town most of the week without plans, and honestly, it’s so much easier than figuring out what to cook three nights out of the week. And on the off nights when we’re at home and don’t have Blue Apron coming…I almost always reference our saved recipe cards to make dinner! I’m especially obsessed with the Chrissy Teigen collab recipes (the banh mi this week was SO GOOD), which is making me strongly consider buying either the Blue Apron cookbook, Chrissy Teigen cookbook or both. Anyone else a fan? (p.s. I have a few free meals to give away–comment below with your email if you want to try it out!)
Reads
I’ve had Sing Unburied Sing on my “to read” for ages, and I’m so glad that I finally dove into it. It’s beautifully written, although I was just complaining about the concept of “magic doors” (a la Exit West) at my book club, and Sing Unburied Sing also has some supernatural elements sprinkled into a real-life narrative. Either way: recommend both! And I didn’t realize that Parchman was a real place until also hearing it referenced on the In the Dark this week: such a strange collision of different content!

This weekend, we’re having a laid-back weekend of catching up with friends in San Diego! Tonight, we have a sunset double date with our good friends (and then the guys are going to a movie, and the gals are sticking around for another beer and bananagrams! I also can’t wait to catch up with a girlfriend who just got engaged, and head over for a pool day and BBQ with our fellow pug-parent friends.
