The big news of this week: we closed on our first house! If it feels like it happened really fast…it kind of did. Our lease ended in mid-July, and although we were able to go to month-to-month, we knew that we wanted to start putting our dollars into a place of our own instead of paying so much in rent. That said, we also LOVE our apartment and neighborhood so didn’t feel like we needed to move immediately. new homeowners in San Diego

At the beginning of summer, we started popping into open houses here and there: not super serious about anything, but it was helpful to get a better sense of what was available in our price range and what was most important to us. And then at the end of June, we met with a realtor who was referred by a girl in my book club (Carolina Houston at Dwell Well–highly recommend if you’re looking in San Diego!). We met her for an intro meeting on a Thursday at the end of June, got set up in her system, saw a property on Saturday, made an offer on Monday…and had our offer accepted on Tuesday. I definitely thought we’d make a few offers and not have them accepted, so it all moved way faster than I expected. We had a few hiccups with repairs that added a bit of stress to the deal, but in the end, I feel like we got a fantastic place that really ticked so many of our boxes in what we were looking for. We’re moving to Clairemont, a suburb just inland of Pacific Beach, in just two weeks: it’s all such a whirlwind, but I can’t wait to share more about the experience and our new digs. If you have any questions, holler in the comments below!

San Diego

A fun little coincidence of this week: my parents were in town! It was so fun to be able to get our keys and celebrate with them here–and also took full advantage of asking them allllll of the questions in Home Depot. We also loved showing them around all of our favorite parts of our current neighborhood, knowing that we probably won’t spend quite as much time here next time they visit. They stayed at this super cute bungalow Airbnb in South Park, which I would highly recommend if you’re visiting San Diego. It was the perfect size and had everything you need for a short trip, and the location was walkable to so many cute cafes, bars, restaurants AND a Target Express.

Beartown book review

Reads

For my book club this month, we’re reading Beartown–and I am loving it so far. Frederik Backman has such an easy and engaging writing style that pulls you in and moves you: the words are nothing fancy, but he does such an incredible job with character and story development. A Man Called Ove was one of my low-key favorites: all of his books are such great and uplifting beach reads if you’re looking for something this summer!

Drinks

So here for the new trend of boozy kombucha: an adorable new spot called JuneShine opened in our neighborhood, and we checked it out with some friends (and our pugs!) last weekend. I opted for a sampler so that I could try out a few different flavors: everything was delicious, but the blood orange mint and the cucumber mojito were my solid favorites. Also: we played What Do You Meme? for the first time, which was totally inappropriate and also completely hilarious. Such a perfect bar game!

This weekend, David and I are going to Conejo Valley! Big plans include Malibu Wine Safaris (drinking wine with giraffes!), some hiking and beaching, and brunch with my BFF Aly at Malibu Farm. It’s going to be such a delightful mini-vacay with some serious relaxation.
