This was one of my favorite kind of weeks: no work travel, no blog travel, no fun travel, Blue Apron for dinner, catching up on all of my ridiculous MTV shows, lots of pug snuggles. I appreciate this low-key weeks so much since they don’t happen that often! For context: I actually don’t think it will happen for another six weeks, and even that isn’t guaranteed. lime tree harvest  It was also nice to have some time and space to settle into our new place, especially as we figure out what to do about our outdoor spaces (getting rid of concrete is a lot more expensive than anticipated, and landscape design is such an underappreciated art) and as I spend all of my evenings browsing home decor sites overwhelmed by all of the choices. And in mundane suburban things that have been taking up mind space: what type of neutral rug should I have in a sun room? where can I find cool but not crazy expensive planters? how often do I water my fruit trees?! SUBURBIA Y’ALL.

Sushi Tadokoro in San Diego

Eats

Anytime I ask David what we should do for dinner, his answer is almost always: SUSHI. He loves sushi, and is on a dedicated hunt to find the best options in San Diego. I will definitely admit the options aren’t quuuuuite as good as New York City–and I’m sure everything will be ruined once we get back from Japan! But I think we have finally found our local spot: Sushi Tadokoro is very under the radar (think nondescript tiny strip mall off a random street), but oh man, the sushi was so good. We sat at the sushi bar, had the chef’s tasting menu, and supplemented with my two favorite things: seaweed salad and spicy tuna roll! Definitely will be going back.

The Grounds Bean Bar in San Diego

Drinks

I’ve been in San Diego for a year now, and I’m constantly surprised by how many cute places keep popping up! I discovered The Grounds Bear Bar this week, and I’m totally obsessed: the interior is insanely cute and tropical AND they have horchata lattes. Childrens Pool in La Jolla, San Diego

Podcasts

If you are looking for a bunch of very good podcast recommendations and some artful words, I loved this piece on What Podcasts Taught Me About Life. Personally, I am v committed to Reply All (a Gimlet show that regularly makes me laugh out loud!) and The Daily (although tbh the politics of the world have been so depressing that I’ve pulled back a bit on listening to this first thing every day), and I’m looking forward to checking out Forever 35.

To All the Boys I Loved Netflix

Movies

I treated myself to the loveliest solo night at home with a showing of To All the Boys I Loved Before and a can of rosé. Very here for all future excellently cast and scored films of teenage love.  (Thank you Erin for enthusiastically convincing me that I must watch it!)

This weekend, we’re heading up to the Bay Area for the wedding party of one of my best college friends (she got officially married at San Francisco City Hall last month, which is maybe the most beautiful spot for a civil ceremony!) and then squeezing in a day of sightseeing in San Francisco!
