Something I tell myself every time I move: there is never a good time to move. Never! It’s always going to be disruptive, annoying and expensive–and you will always pack something and then immediately realize you need it. That said, this does seem to be a particularly bad time to move: I’ve had work trips during the week, blog trips on the weekends, and a never-ending inbox.

It has made me extremely grateful to have a true partner: David has been on the ground, taking the lead on home repairs and moving, accepting deliveries and managing quotes. On top of being the best pug father in the world! I think sometimes as a woman, it’s super easy to feel simultaneously guilty for not being able to do it all and anxious over trying to do it all–at the very least, I definitely struggle with that! But these past few weeks have reminded me how important it is in a partnership to be able to rely on each other and keep communication open–and be appreciative for the work we both do for the good of our lives together.

Moving

One thing that has been nice about moving: we have a bit of time before we have to be out of our apartment, so we’ve been able to slowly move some boxes up before our big move day next week. We got to use a Buick Enclave for our little getaway to Conejo Valley, and took advantage of having it around to move some boxes up to our new place. I want to quickly rave about two things. First, the space on this thing with the seats folded down is ENORMOUS: David could comfortably lay down spread eagle without an issue! This was also the first time I’d ever seen a rearview mirror camera: you could basically toggle it between being a mirror and being a video screen showing out the back of the car. It totally came in handy when I filled the back up with boxes…and then couldn’t see out the rearview mirror anymore! I was able to easily switch to using the video feature for total visibility. I continue to be blown away by all of the technology in cars these days–it makes things so much easier AND safer!

Eats

Although I’m such a creature of habit when I travel (whenever I’m in San Francisco, I ALWAYS have Philz toast and a New Manhattan for breakfast and a sweetgreen harvest bowl for lunch!), I am trying to get better about trying out new places in new cities. When I was in Seattle this week, I asked my friend (and long-time reader–I met her back in Thailand over wine in a hostel!) for a local lunch recommendation–and so I ended up at the all-day Happy Hour at Japonessa. Delicious, inventive sushi at great prices–and on a delightfully sunny day in Seattle, it was so lovely to sit al fresco and do some people watching.

Black Nike Cortez Sneakers

Reads

Reading this a little bit for work, but I’m actually really enjoying Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike. I’ve been a longtime Nike fan: I wore nothing but Nikes when I ran track, and the brand is still my go-to for athletic shoes. I had no idea about the company’s origin story: it’s a relatively young company, with such strong Oregon roots. It also has some good lessons and inspiration for entrepreneurs!

“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.” -Phil Knight, Shoe Dog

This weekend, I am SO excited to be going to the Grand Ole Opry and exploring Nashville with my mom! I grew up on country music (I’m pretty sure “Fancy” was the first song I knew all the words to, which is hilarious to think about now), Nashville has been at the top of my list for a while AND I’m long overdue for a mother-daughter trip: let me know what we can’t miss in the comments below!
