I popped up to Seattle for work this week, and it was such a delight to truly experience fall. I’m definitely not trading my year-round 70-degree sunshine for anything, but I did enjoy a few days of chillier weather and swooning over all of the leaves changing. I need to remember to schedule trips in the future specifically for some leaf peeping!Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle

Another thing I did this week: vote! This piece on voting no on ballot propositions (even if you agree with the spirit of them) resonated very deeply with me, and highly recommend reading it if you are also drowning in and grumpy about all of the props that we are constantly voting on in California. Blacks Beach in San Diego, California  Blacks Beach in San Diego, California

San Diego

We finallllly checked out Blacks Beach for a little beach picnic, and it might be my new favorite spot in San Diego! It’s supposedly a nude beach (!) but all bits were covered up when we were there. It’s a pretty steep (but not difficult) walk down and back up the cliffs, so it definitely weeds out a lot of the crowds. So beautiful, especially at sunset.

Films

I had such a fun girlfriend date at Rooftop Cinema Club last weekend, too: we went and saw Selena, which I haven’t seen in YEARS. I’m still singing “Dreaming of You” all of these days later! I also really loved the concept of Rooftop Cinema Club: the setup is really cool, the views are great, and you can actually hear the movie (unlike so many outdoor movies) because you get headphones. Worth checking out to see if you have one in your city!

Reads

I’m still slogging through A Gentleman in Moscow (I can’t decide whether always needing to finish books is a good or a bad thing), but didn’t want to drag the hardcover on the plane soooo I picked up Star of the North on my Kindle. I’m so glad I did because I am OBSESSED, and it is different than any other book I’ve read lately in the best way. North Korea! Political-ish thriller! CIA and diplomatic drama! Side note: if you haven’t read Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea…you must.

Looks

I popped into an Aritzia between work meetings when I was in San Francisco a few weeks ago and had just enough time to pet this coat…and then not stop thinking about it. It is SO SOFT. Although coats are truly unnecessary in San Diego, I realized I needed something for winter work trips up to San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest and I honestly could not get this coat out of my head. I felt like it might be a little tooooo trendy–I haven’t totally been on the teddy bear coat train AND it’s millennial pink–but it was so cozy and comfortable on my recent trip to Seattle, and I got so many compliments. Officially considering it an excellent investment! Side note: I feel like Aritzia is kind of under the radar, but its Wilfred Free and Babaton brands are my go-to’s for chic, classic, versatile (and not too crazy expensive) pieces for work and weekend.

Words

“You know what charm is: a way of getting the answer yes without having asked any clear question.” -Albert Camus

This weekend, I’m up in Northern California on a fun little assignment outside of my hometown! Looking forward to drinking wine al fresco and catching up with some of my best friends.
