Of the moment // 10.5.18
To be honest, I barely know what time zone I am in, I miss my own bed so much, and I did very little other than work and travel this week. After spending last weekend enjoying some absolutely perfect fall weather in New York City, we endured some flight delays heading home via Chicago on Monday and then I spent the rest of the week on a work trip in San Francisco and today I am working on a six-hour train ride.
My mom actually texted me to ask if everything was OK because I wasn’t posting anything on Instagram Stories. Everything was fine, just not doing anything very photo-worthy: lots of meetings and Lyft rides and trying to dig myself out of a never-ending inbox hole. Not the most glamorous of weeks, but it happens!
Podcasts
It was a big week for podcasts! (If you haven’t caught on yet, my day job is at Gimlet Media.) We launched a new business interview show hosted by Alex Blumberg called Without Fail AND Heavyweight came back for its third season with a bang. Also, highly recommend checking out the cool shows we created with brands: Pick Me Up from Lyft and Wireframe from Adobe. Plenty keeping me busy over here!
Eats
It was a good week for my love of everything seasoning: had a solid bagel on Upper West Side and had an everything croissant (!!!) at Sightglass in San Francisco. How have I only now just discovered the joy of the everything croissant?!
Looks
We were in New York City for a wedding last weekend, so of course I used Rent the Runway to find something fun to wear! I ended up with this little red number, which got a lot of compliments. An older aunt at the wedding told me that it was rare to be able to pull off something red and tight, but I did it–ha! Also: best decision was getting the best spicy chicken sandwich in the world before heading to the open bar at the wedding.
New York City
One of the most fun parts of the weekend in the city: my good friends got a VESPA, which is SO fun, and I got to hitch a ride across the Brooklyn Bridge on the back of it! It was a straight beautiful day in the city, and it was so incredible to see the skyline buzzing through traffic across the bridge. Also, real talk, if you need insurance in New York City, hit up Austin–I think he should start offering Vespa rides as a bonus!
Reads
The upside of some flight delays and sketchy wifi on planes: time to read! I read Killers of the Flower Moon, which was this crazy look at a part of 1900s American history that I knew nothing about: people were basically murdering Native Americans for their land in an area of Oklahoma and there was a huge cover-up, which led to the founding of the FBI as we know it. I also read The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which I thought was WWII historical fiction–but it’s actually true, which makes it even sadder and more horrific.
Words
“Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real.” -Nora Ephron
This weekend, we’re going to Santa Barbara to celebrate my great college friend’s wedding!
